Who we are
The 2nd Congressional District for both the Republican and Democratic parties is made up of nine whole counties and parts of two others. They include the northern third of Allegan, all of Ottawa, the northwest corner of Kent, all of Muskegon, Oceana, Newaygo, Mason, Manistee, Lake, Benzie and Wexford counties. This area includes about 650,000 (+/-) people along 200 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline.
Like all congressional districts across the country, we send one person to represent us in Washington. The principal priority of the 2nd Democratic District Committee is to push for the election of a Democrat to represent west Michigan in the U.S. Congress. We are also involved in building the base of our party and supporting Democratic candidates at the state and local levels.
Our 2nd District Committee is made up of the duly elected officers, Executive Committee members, Delegates and Alternates to the State Central Committee of the Michigan Democratic Party and the chairs of the Democratic county committees listed below:
